The chilly mornings are finally here which means its time to think coats. It’s one of the biggest decisions that we will make with our style for the season ahead so it is really worth doing the research into finding the style that works best for you and your wardrobe.

For some, its about discovering the new trends and for others it is about investment. With so much choice out there it can be a little overwhelming so I have compiled a guide to the AW18 coat trends for you to look out for when shopping. Hopefully this will help you to make the right decision and step out wrapped up in style this season

Animal Instinct

Whether you are a lover or a hater there is no getting away from the wave of animal print that has hit the high street in recent weeks. Leopard print is definitely leading the way but if you fancy something a little different why not opt for snake, zebra or crocodile instead. It is possible to add a subtle hint of a trend into any outfit by accessorising with a bag, shoe, silk scarf or belt but if you are up for embracing the teddy bear/faux fur coat trend that is still working from last year, then go all out with a statement animal print coat.

Green With Envy

Green is a key colour this season from mint to emerald to forest and theres no better way to embrace a trend during the winter with a bold statement block colour coat. Either let the green do the talking by styling with neutrals, colour block with different layers of green or add a colour pop with a chunky ultra violet (another one of the key colours for the season) knit, scarf or boot.

Relaxed Coat £65 Topshop

Check Mate

When have checks and tweed NOT been on the list of what to wear in winter?! It’s always a great idea to include a checked/tweed coat or blazer in your core wardrobe so this is something that is definitely worth an investment. If you are spending a lot make sure the cut is classic – think blazer and trench styles. This season the checks are all about blown up, bold colour and supersize 80’s appeal so if you are all about embracing the latest trends then this is what you should be looking out for.

It’s A Wrap

Capes are back! This is an easy way to incorporate two trends in one by layering multiple coats and jackets. Capes can give your look texture and added warmth. They are easy to whip on and off and my personal favourite when nipping in and out of shops. Think leather biker and throw over a wool blanket wrap which is the most up to date version of a cape.

Flower Power

There’s no surprise that the floral trend has carried over to the autumn so for an updated way to wear this trend bring the detail to your outer layers with floral coats and jackets. Perfect for winter weddings or day time dates  and gives us the opportunity to dress to impress on the outside.

Embroidered Kimono Coat £399 Ted Baker

Nothing screams autumn more than warm tones like browns, oranges and camels and this season its all about rust. Opt for texture such as faux fur, leather or high quality PVC in this colour palette worn with classic cashmere, tailored shirting, grey checks and sneakers for a modern and sophisticated look.

Leather Mac £599 Karen Millen

The Blazer

This season the classic blazer has a nod to 80s styling with the boyfriend blazer being back on the scene. Add softness and femininity by teaming your blazer with a pleated metallic midi skirt and logo t shirt or roll neck in the colder months. Keep things simple with classic black or navy, embrace checks or go wild with animal print.

Oversized Blazer £79.99 Zara

It was time for the classic parka to move over and make way for the return of the 90s quilted puffer. Hooded styles are perfect for the school run or relaxed weekends so keep styling laid back and enjoy being cosy this winter.
